Westies in Need (WiN) Westie Rescue

Toronto Westie Walk

Sunday September 13, 2009

Hello! My name is Corrie Yeoman and I am organizing the Toronto Westie Walk and Fun Day this year on Sunday September 13, 2009.

The walk will be held at Mississauga Valley Park, 1275 Mississauga Valley Blvd, Mississauga, ON, L5A 3R ...please note this is a different location than last year (Click here for a map, if needed.) or click here for written directions!

This is WiN's MAJOR fundraiser, so we ask everyone to make donations the day of the walk or get pledges beforehand. The day begins with registration at 11:00 am, followed by pictures taken of each participant, then a short walk around the park, led by our very own lady Bagpiper.
The 'walk' is approximately 15 minutes, and the terrain is suitable for strollers and other types of mobility enhanced equipment. There is no requirement to participate in the 'walk' in order to take part in the event. You may participate in as little/much of the 'walk' as you and your dog(s) can handle - or not walk at all.

Next we participate in some really fun Westie Games such a Wiener Dunkin, Musical Hoops and we are again having our Terrier Races!

Water for the dogs will be served community-bowl style, so bring your own bowl if you require a separate drinking container for your dog.

We finish the day with a BBQ and, of course, lots and lots of prizes for our participants.

Rain or shine, the Westie Walk is on! In the event of rain, the schedule of activities will be modified, but the Westie Walk will not be canceled or rescheduled.

If you are a Facebook kinda person...we have a page with all the Westie Walk information that you may want to join...click here to go to FaceBook/Toronto Westie Walk!!!

This year we are asking that as many folks as possible have their Walk Registration form filled out before they arrive at the walk...this makes our registration line move so much faster. Please click here to download your registration form and simply fill it out and bring it to the walk on September 13th and you will speed through the line!

It is a lot of fun and a great opportunity for Westie owners to get to know each other. We ask the walkers to make donations the day of the walk or get pledges beforehand. We have some great prizes for the folks who collect the most $ and who travel the farthest distance, etc. To download a pledge form, just click here.

So bring your lawn chair, tell all your friends and we sure hope to see you there.

Also, we have decided to add a "Photo Contest" to our event! If you have already sent in some pictures...thanks so much! For everyone else...we NEED your photos.

We will display all the submitted pictures at the Westie walk for everyone to see and we will have a judge make the final decisions!

Here are some Photo Contest Rules:
  • Each family can submit a maximum of 3 pictures-we need the name(s) of dog(s) and the owners name with the picture(s)
  • Cut off date for the last pictures will be September 1st 2009
  • Categories will be: Most Westie-tude, Best Dressed or Costume, single Westie in photo, multiple Westies in photo and of course, a Best in Show winner!

Please e-mail all your pictures to:

jhooperyan@mac.com

So grab those cameras and start taking some pictures of those cute Westies we know you all have!

We'll see you on September 13th! It's gonna be a fun-filled Westie-ful day!
