Westies in Need - WiN
|
Toronto Westie Walk-2009 |
|
The Annual Toronto Westie Walk
and Fun Day enjoyed the most successful fundraising day in our
history!
We had 213 Westies attend our Westie Walk this year! The
Toronto Westie Walk is the largest Westie Walk in Canada and we are now the
largest Westie event in North America!!!!!!
The day began at 11:00 am
with registration, followed by a photo session with our official photographer!
As our participants waited for our day to begin they checked out our
donations/draw table and purchased tickets for some of the great items we had
on our donation table. We also had some wonderful vendors this year so there
was lots to do before the day began.
If you could not make it to the Westie
Walk but would still like to make a donation, it can be as easy as a few mouse
clicks. Donations can be sent to WiN through Paypal by clicking our secure
payments
Or you can send your donation by cheque in the mail. Our mailing info
can be found on our contacts page. |
One of our vendors, Freeze Frame Foto, has some
pictures up on his website...they are so cute..take a look...

Next they could go to our
"grooming station" for nail clips or a quick brush out for their Westie before
the group picture! Our groomer Barb very generously donated her time and all
monies collected to Westies in Need!
We introduced a Westie photo contest this year and we
were blown away with the response from all of you. We received 175 entries!!!
That was amazing! Click
here for a slide show to see all our photo contest winners...wait till you
see the Best in Show picture!!!! |
At about noon our 20 to 30 minute walk began
around Mississauga Valley Park, lead by our very own bagpiper! After the
walk, the Westies hit the Westie Watering Station for a little drink and then
we were off to play some games. We were very pleased to have Rogers Cable give
us coverage this year to promote our walk. |

Let the Games begin!
Our
first game this year was Musical Hoops..we had 2 heats of that game. Our
winners were Diane Devan and her Westie, Mia and Skye Follas and her Westie,
Barley. The 2 winners of the Musical Hoops each took home a very nice gift bag
just stuffed with treats and toys and other fun stuff.

Next was the always
popular Wiener Dunkin! In the first heat the winner was Paul and his girl Sadie
(they have won this game 3 years in a row...Sadie just LOVES to eat!) In the
second heat the winners were Sue Hunwicks and her little girl Lucy! This is
Lucy's second year winning as well!!
The 2 winners of the Wiener Dunkin
also took home a very nice gift bag.

The next event was our Westie Terrier
Races. We had 10 groups of 10 Westies race (with each race winner getting a
nice stuffy to bring home) and then we had the ultimate Race Off.
The overall winner of our Westie races was a little
girl named Maggie May owned by Theresa Daly! She may have been small, but she
could fly!
Maggie May got a big gift bag as well...bigger than she is!

| Next was one of our favourite
parts of the day...the Parade of Rescues. Everyone got their tissues
out
they are too cute and are all now in forever, happy and loving homes!
We gave each Parade of Rescue participant a very nice ribbon that they wore in
the parade that said "I Rescued my Westie" |

Our oldest Westie who attended
this year was Shelby who is over 16 years of age and is owned by Christine
Kaczynski.
Our youngest Westie this year was Brody who is just 9 weeks
old and is owned by Steven and Susan Burt.
The person who won the prize
for travelling the farthest was Damion Gillard and Julie Koopmans who came over
200 km from Goderich!
The people who won the big, big prize for
collecting the most money was Dale and Sue Croft!!! THANKS!!!
We
gave out lots and lots of prizes from the donation table...it was over-flowing
this year and then it was time to enjoy our BBQ and spend some time talking
with other Westie lovers.

We just couldn't do this at all
with out the help from our volunteers and our sponsors and of course
you,
the Westie Walkers, who support our event each year.
A big thank you goes out to our Volunteers who helped out the
day of the walk. They were: Roseanne Corbett, Jim Jackson, Eleanor LeBlanc,
Peter LeBlanc, Victoria Jackson, Dee McAulay, Bob Tekauc, Ray Pang, Andrea
Pang, Lauren Hook, Lorraine Pang , Simone Tekauc and Jazeen Hollings.
A
very special thank you goes out to the Westie Walk committee for 2009...they
did a great job...Jeannine Hooper-Yan, Lisa MacCumber, Jeff Brewitt, Darren
Tomalty, Susan Jones, Irene Puddicombe, Jane Graham and Ann Camilleri

I
would also like to send HUGE thanks out to all the folks who had contacted
sponsors on our behalf and brought prizes for this year's walk.
THANKS!
There is another thank you that I must make...it is to Julia
Sutherland who gave us a $1,000.00 donation in memory of her 4 month old
Westie, Fergus who passed away! Thanks Julia, it will go a very long way to
helping little Westies.
The sponsors have been very generous to us this
year and we just can't say Thank You enough to them as well!
Click here to see who they are...please support
them if you can!
Folks asked me..."are we gonna do this again next
year???" Well of course we are!!!! As soon as we have the 2010 date I will send
out an e-mail to everyone.
Thanks again! Corrie Yeoman and her little
Westie, Charlotte Toronto Westie Walk Chair

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures;
they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being
alive |
