“A spoiled rotten Westie lives here”7

Higgins

Higgins came to us from WIN August 24, 2011. Sadly, on Wednesday February 10, 2016 Higgins succumbed to Westie Lung Disease at the age of 8 years.

Higgins had a very rough start to life after becoming ill with serious respiratory issues that resulted in him having his left lung removed at the tender age of 7 months. We decided that our little Westie Aspen (also a rescue) who was very fearful, withdrawn and had no quality of life needed a “male” life mate after we found she responded well to male dogs. It took a couple of years but Higgins successfully transformed her.

Higgins was our “mellow fellow”. He was a teacher, a mentor and a buddy. Higgins showed Aspen how to play, to have fun with toys, to run freely in the fields doing somersaults as she goes, to stop and “smell the roses”, to check the “pee” mail on our walks, that being “on” the bed is superior to hiding “under” the bed.

He loved the cottage, to go boating and fishing. Last summer we found him sitting on the dock beside the boat looking up the lake enjoying the beautiful sunset. He was our “sniffer” dog who, upon arrival home from the store, would insist on checking the inside all of our bags to see if there was something special in there for him. He loved cuddles, kissing and being close to us.

He will be greatly missed. We are sure he was met on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge by our first Westie Bonnie who died from cancer June 8, 2011 at the age of 5 1/2 years.

RIP Sir Higgins

Love from Mum Dad and Aspen
