Success Stories
Westies in Need (WiN) works very hard to match our wonderful dogs with equally wonderful new families. Here are some of our success stories!
Lilly's Story
One of our little rescues was named Lilly - she was the worst case of skin problems we had ever seen when she arrived into our rescue program. The Pet Network saw her info on our website and asked if they could do a story on our Lilly and our rescue. Click here to watch the video of Lilly and her journey...they did a great job and we can't thank the Pet Network enough for supporting us! Lilly says THANKS too!
You're in good hands Theo!
Findlay comes to us as an owner surrender. He is just 16 months old and, as you can see, as cute as a button.
Love and thanks to his family for trusting us to find him his new home! Welcome Findlay.
An update...Findlay has been adopted! He asked his foster family if he could live with them forever, and they all thought it was the BEST idea!
3 year old Harley comes to us as an owner surrender. As you can see he has some skin issues, but that does not worry us. He will start on our Westies in Need Itchy Skin program right away and we will get him feeling and looking better!
Welcome Harley!!!!!
An update...Harley has been adopted! He met his new Dad at our indoor Play Day and it was love at first sight!
Welcome Mimi to Westies in Need. This darling year old girl is just too cute for words. She will need some dental work and vaccinations need to be updated, but afterwards she will be up for adoption!
We currently have some GREAT applications from WiN folks who have been patiently waiting for a little Westie, some for well over a year….so we will be looking at those applications first.
An update...Mimi has been adopted....she has found the perfect home and has moved to the Ottawa area to join her new family!
Welcome to Mac Gyver- a nine week old puppy who was surrendered into rescue by a breeder. This darling boy was born congentively blind but you would never know it! He is a little spitfire and is just perfect! Welcome to Westies in Need Mac Gyver!
An update...Mac Gyver has been adopted! This little guy has found the perfect home!
Skye comes to us as an owner surrender. This VERY sweet unspayed girl (sorry Skye..not for long!) will see our Vet in the next few days and then she will be ready for adoption!
An update...Skye has been adopted. She loves her new family already and she even gets a big Westie brother, Fergus to play with too!!!
Welcome our 2 new rescues....both girls are 6 years old and were breeding dogs but are now going to be spayed and adopted out to 2 of our amazing Westies in Need families! Welcome girls to WiN!!!!
An update...both Rosie and Sasha have found wonderful new homes. Although the girls did not get adopted together (it was best for them) they still see each other all the time as the girls' adoptive homes are VERY good friends!
WELCOME 20 month old Flocon who comes to us with skin issues … that, oh too familiar smell of dirty work socks (yeast)!!!
No worries sweet girl, we’ll have you feeling better in no time! Enjoy your time fostering with Westie companions as you start treatment.
An update...Flocon has been adopted....her new name is Maisie and she is one happy girl for sure!!!!
Welcome 7 year old beautiful Barley. He is an owner surrender and we can not thank his family enough for trusting us to find his new home.
After Barley has settled in and we get to know him a bit better we will look over all of our current/waiting applications!
An update...Barley has been adopted....a sweeter Westie would be hard to find- he really is a "one in a million" kinda boy and he found the perfect home!
A warm WELCOME to 10 yr old Westie-mix, Maggie May Elizabeth.
Maggie comes to us as an owner surrender, recently diagnosed with diabetes. Truly heart breaking, as her senior Mommy on a fixed income was challenged with the very high cost of vet care, medication and special food and just could not bare the vet's suggestion to put her down.
She will be having a follow-up vet visit this week for some bloodwork to make sure that she's on the proper dose of insulin.
Thank you to her foster Mommy for opening her heart and home to this sweet girl and her special needs.
An update...Maggie has been adopted! She has found a perfect and forever home
WELCOME Tikka (2 yrs) & Hunter (7 yrs) a bonded pair who travelled yesterday (like troopers!!!) from Mattawa, ON to their new home in Quebec.
THANK YOU to all those who took part in transport ... we couldn't do what we do, without our amazing WiN volunteers!!!!!!
An update...Tikka and Hunter have been adopted! They have found their new and "fur"ever home and so happy to stay together!
Welcome 2 new additions to our WiN rescue. Please welcome Jackpot (cutest little Cairn in the world) and Shilo (she is a Westie). These 2 sweethearts would like to stay together, so that is just what we will make sure happens!
An update...JackPot and Shilo have been adopted! They have found together their new and "fur"ever home with Lesley and her family.
An update the true success trajectory of this ultra sweet pair. They could not be any more different in temperament or personality.
Shilo, now 12 years old, has the energy of a 2 year old. As you can see she loves her toys and will play and chase by the hour, no exaggerating. She is silly beyond words, loves her pal Jack but tests his patience when her playfulness gets a bit too close. She loves her peeps but has very definite opinions of some folks and can be a most protective Westie. We have learned to harness her fears, if that is indeed at the core, and let her decide who she tolerates and those she does not wish to
.
Jack is now 11 and about as chill as a dog can possibly be. He loves his treats but can be very fussy about what goes in the dinner bowl. He is so very affectionate with the most intense, big, brown eyes staring deep into one’s soul or so it feels. If only we could read their minds. He is a bit of a nervous fellow and I occasionally wonder if Shilo’s protective nature comes from this aspect of her pal Jack.
This we will never know but are so very happy to have them bringing joy and smiles daily.
They are both excellent walkers, love the great outdoors but also enjoy sitting by the fire with their new best friends (two legged friends). We really do feel they came to settle with us with minimal difficulty or anxiety.
WIN is the success story here and we could not be happier to be sharing Shilo & Jack’s progress with the WIN community.
Thank you Corrie & team for all the excellent work you do.
Hugs,
Lesley, Richard, Shilo & Jack
Old Blue Eyes...
OK...this one is not really a WiN Westie
... but when we found this old picture of Frank Sinatra with a sweet little Westie, we just knew we had to put it on our website, somewhere!!!
Can you blame us???
